Popular musician beats up landlord


Last Friday, artist, Julius Igbinedione, 54, of Jikwoyi Phase III, Abuja, was arraigned before the Karu Senior Magistrates’ Court for assaulting his landlord’s wife, Mrs Ngozi Okafor.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Pascal Njoku, told the court that Igbinedione on Nov. 14, assaulted and threatened Okafor, of the same address, with a pestle. The accused pleaded not guilty
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Christopher Oba, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum. Oba said that the surety must have a reasonable means of livelihood and a traceable address within the jurisdiction of the court.

Popular actress in jail for scam


Like a movie story,2 popular Yoruba actresses were arrested by military men and made to make some refunds after collecting millions from the son of a powerful spiritualist based in Isheri/Igando axis a Lagos suburb.
According to military sources, they were invited by the Islamic cleric who appealed they help him recover several millions deposited  in his son’s  account by customers which have been mismanaged.
The son of the spiritualist after undergoing interrogation told soldiers that he spent the money on 2 popular Yoruba actresses, Toyin Aimakhu who got 800,000.00,and Regina Chukwu who got 2.3milliom. Another producer simply known as Blessin Osuya  collected 1.6million.
The soldiers swiftly got Toyin arrested and she insisted the money was part payment for a business transaction, she however refunded 500.000.00 out of the 800.000.00 she collected, Regina too returned 1million out of 2.3million while Blessing who was to commence shooting of a new movie refunded 1million before they were left off the hook.
Efforts by MetroNews to speak with the victim and the movie acts were unsuccessful and they all expressed fear about how powerful the spiritualist is and would rather let sleeping dogs be.

J Martiins is made African ambassador

Award winning artiste and producer, JMartins has been named African Music Ambassador by the organizers of Golden Icon Academy Movie Awards (GIAMA) which took place at the Morris Cultural Center, Houston, USA recently.
The afro pop singer who recently dropped a new single, ‘Kpomo’ was accorded the honor based on his outstanding achievements in the African music industry.
Speaking at the event he thanked his numerous fans and supporters who have stood by him throughout his almost fifteen year career ‘Its a privilege to be here today and to be honored by the organizers of this event. This he did at the 70th birthday party of Movie veteran Idowu Phillips popularly known as Mama Rainbow. Lionel Messi's two weeks old son, Thiago Messi, has been signed by an Argentine football club - Newells Old boys. Newell’s was where Messi played at youth level before joining Barcelona.
 Baby Thiago, who was signed by his grandfather, is eight years younger than when his old man joined them in 1995.
You know, Thiago might grow up and want to be a plastic surgeon, so Newells needs to chill.

Star excites Abuja

Nigerian police in action. shoots bank employee while robbers walked away


(from Punch)An employee of Access Bank Plc, Mr. Femi Badejo, and his security guard, Joshua Moses, were shot by policemen in Lagos on Saturday after they responded to a distress call about a robbery at the banker’s home in Ikota area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the robbers had attacked Badejo and his neighbours around 4am and one of the neighbours made a distress call to the police, but by the time the policemen arrived about an hour later, the robbers had fled.

Wild party at Next Movie star house


Last Saturday was an especially exciting day for the 16 housemates of the 2012 Next Movie Star. After the 10-day training and grooming session culminating in their exclusive media unveil earlier in the week, the organizers of the celebrated reality television show hosted the housemates to a grand welcome party. Upscale events and entertainment centre, The Place, in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, was the venue of the well-attended Welcome Party.

Choirs to battle in Lagos


Reality shows and talent hunts have become regular fixtures on television these days. Many of them have created music and movie stars that we adore. Iyanya, Omawunmi, Jodie, Uti and many others have all taken part in one talent show or the other. These shows offer them a good platform to launch their careers.
There is a new competition around, and it is quite different from the hoard. It is the first faith based reality talent show in the country. Tagged Gospel Explosion, it is the first of it’s kind Choir Contest. Choirs from all over the country are expected to battle it out to determine which is the best choir in the land. According to organisers, the finals will take place on Sunday 23rd Dec at the Civic centre, in Lagos. Already, the auditions are taking place in Lagos. All church choirs have been asked to take the opportunity.
The winner of the competition has will be taking home N1million cash prize. They will also be signed on to a recording contract with Wole Oni Music Production(W.O.M.P), the most prominent gospel label in the country. There will be three judges who will be introduced as the show progresses.

Masai Ujiri (born ca. 1970) is the general manager of the Denver Nuggets of the NBA. A native of Zaria, Nigeria, he is the first African-born general manager for an American major league sports team.
The son of a doctor and a hospital administrator, Ujiri originally played soccer as a youth before focusing on basketball.

6 Phd holders apply for driver job

The ugly unemployment statistics of Nigeria has been highlighted by the number of applications from higher degree and first degree holders who sought employment as drivers in Dangote group. The staggering figure stands at 13,000.
Of the 13,000 applications received by the Dangote Group for the Graduate Executive Truck Driver, there were six Ph.D, 704 Masters and over 8,460 Bachelor degree holders.
Alhaji Aliko Speaking during the mentor-ship meeting of the World Bank Youth Forum, Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said that the company only needed 100 drivers, but received the overwhelming applications.
According to Dangote, most of the applicants were from reputable universities and had the needed quality.
He said: “All these things are verifiable, and they all graduated from reputable institutions which is satisfactory; and our plan is to eventually make them self dependent.
“Despite the fact that the drivers get trip allowances on each trip along with their salaries, the arrangement is that they will own the trucks at no interests or repayments after they must have reached 300,000 kilometres, which is about 140 trips from Lagos to Kano and a hard working driver can complete in two years, while lazy ones can take maximum of four years.”

Policeman who owns ahummer, arrested as armed robber

The tale of how of a new generation bank at Akowonjo, Lagos, was robbed last year won’t be complete without the mention of Eboma Onyeka, a Police Sergeant who was at the time of the incident attached to the Mobile Police Unit 20, at Ikeja.
Onyeka had allegedly conspired with four others, including an employee of the said bank and robbed the bank he was to secure of about N10m in April 2011. A security guard attached to the bank, Sunday Ogundipe, was strangled in the process.
Two months after, Onyeka was arrested, tried and dismissed from the force before he was arraigned with his accomplices on armed robbery and murder charges in July 2011.
However, Onyeka is once again a guest of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos, months after securing his bail. He is said to have been involved in a series of bank ATM robberies since his bail from Kirikiri Prisons in December 2011.
But Onyeka strenuously denied his involvement in any bank robbery attacks and he was quick to give a recap of his activities since his bail from prison.
