The awards season is here and every actor across the world
is gearing up for the events of their lives. These events are what usually
makes or breaks them. In Nigeria, it is all about the African Movie Academy
Awards(AMAA) and the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). In America, The
academy awards popularly known as the Oscars announced its nominees at the
grand event earlier this week.

Many critics have been making comments on the list of Oscar
nominees, but most of all the nominee choices seem to have matched the
acceptance of most of the movies at the cinema. However there are some who
criticise the choices. Foreign and even some Nigeria critics are not happy
about the exclusion of Nigeria’s David Oyelowo from the awards. Many had
praised his artistry in the portrayal of American hero, Martin Luther King in
the movie Selma.
As a Movie critic Linda Homes wrote, “David Oyelowo was
considered a good bet for his portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma, but
the film was shut out of everything except Best Picture and Best Original Song.
How a film can qualify for Best Picture and have practically no other elements
worthy of recognition is an eternal and surprising,” she said.
