On Tuesday, 80 Nollywood stars under the aegis of Actors
Guild of Nigeria(AGN) were at the presidential villa, Aso rock in Abuja. The
visit which is a courtesy visit was led by the president of the guild, Ibinabo
Fiberesima. She was supported by top members of AGN members of the Board of
Trustees and executives of the guild. During the visit, the president was being
named the Grand Patron of Actors Guild. He will be the first and only person to
be named a grand patron of the body.
At the villa were, top names in the movie industry
including, Ramsey Nouah, Omoni Oboli, Monalisa
Chinda, ini Edo, Stephanie Okereke, Chidi Mokeme, Segun Arinze, Dan Ibro, Funke
Akindele, and Dieweight Ikpechukwu. Also there were Fidelis Duker, Chico Ejiro,
Abubakar Yakub, Sule Mijinyawa, Mercy Aigbe, Ifeanyi Dike, Keppy Ekpeyong, Desmond
Elliot, Fred Amata and Uche Ogbodo amongst many others.
According to industry feelers, the visit was more than it
looks like, they believe that it is a means for the actors to position
themselves for the 2015 campaign windfall. Usually, during election years, entertainers
including actors are included in the campaign train of politicians, and this is
normally a lucrative venture for them. The visit of these actors to the
president looks suspect as general elections is just months away. One of the
actors however says that is not the case, “Yes, the president has done very
well and deserves a second term, but that is not the reason we visited him,”
she said asking her identity not to be revealed.
