After much uncertainties, the organisers of the most prestigious movie awards in Africa, African Movie Academy Awards(AMAA) has made a public statements of the proceedings of this years’ event. Already, the date had been fixed for the 22nd of this month the venue has of course been fixed for Eko Hotel in Lagos, and not the regular Yenogua, Bayelsa State.
Usually, the pomp and hypes that precedes the event includes the announcement of the special Hollywood guests at the event. Over the years, AMAA has been able to attract top names from Hollywood and other movies industries around the world.
This year, the AMAA CEO, Peace Anyiam Osigwe, announced at a press conference in Lagos during the week that Morris Cestnut will be one of the Hollywood actors to grace this years’ AMAA. Morris is one of the top black male actors in America. His good looks and player roles have made him favourite amongst black female American movie watchers. Peace announced that the actor, along with others are expected days before the event.
Morris however is not the only one making a Hollywood star appearance, Lynn Whitfield, the TV drama actress will also be attending the event. Vivian, the French – Senegalese music sensation will be entertaining alongside Nigeria’s Asa, and Tuface Idibia. Other top names that had attended the event in previous years are Oscar winning Forest whitaker and Hollywood legend Danny Glover.
When asked if movement from Bayelsa has made any difference on the awards, Peace explained that Bayelsa State is still part of the AMAA, explaining that the fact that the awards did not hold there does not mean that Bayelsa has abandoned the awards. “We have always had a good relationship with Bayelsa, when the awards was just in paper, they believed in it and they are still part of it even when we are here in Lagos,” Peace explains
